It wouldn’t be the holiday season without Christmas lights illuminating the town. Christmas lighting is many people's favorite tradition around this time of the year. The lights bring the holly jolly spirit and holiday cheer.

Christmas lights are more than just lights, they are also a way for people to express themselves creatively, a way for the community to come together, and a nice picture backdrop for those ever-lasting memories.

Christmas lighting can be a bonding moment for many families, whether you are putting them up together or sight-seeing the community light displays.

Here in the CSRA, we have many light displays that families travel to see whether that is at a park, an establishment, or through the the local neighborhoods.

One of the most popular light displays in the region is located in Appling, GA – it's known as the Lights of the South. While this is a great way to see Christmas lights in the community, some families hope for an alternative at no cost.

Here are a few Christmas lights around the CSRA to see for free:

Evans Towne Center

Evans Towne Center is covered in Christmas lights, as well as a  50 ft. LED Christmas tree. The lights are on every evening till around 9:30 pm.

Hopeland Gardens

December 9 until December 22 in Aiken south Carolina the Hoplands Garden has created an enchanted walkthrough of over 100,000 lights. The lights are on each evening from 6 pm until 9:30 pm.

Each evening at 7 pm, live entertainment is provided on the Roland H. Windham Performing Arts Stage.

The Smith's Wacky Tacky Light Show

This house is located at 1165 Oakton Trail Evans, Ga. They have there light show going every evening from 6-11pm.

Just outside the Grovetown Municipal Court, there is a small, but mighty light display put on each evening.

Christmas At Graceland

I'd always wondered what Christmas at Graceland looked like. Well a few years ago, I had the opportunity to see it for myself. Now I wasn't actually there on Christmas, I was in Memphis for New Year's, but all of the decorations were still up. They usually put up the decorations in mid November and leave them up through Elvis' birthday, which is January 8th.

Something You've Got To See

I've been to Graceland nine times. However, I'd never see it all lit up for the holidays. I'd never seen the blue lights that line the driveway, or the nativity scene, or the Christmas greeting that Elvis had made in the 1950s. Yes, they still use it to this day!

The first time I saw Graceland all lit up at night, I couldn't help but sing that line from "Christmas In Dixie". You know the one that goes, "maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights". It was, and it was so cool to see in person. However, the outside isn't the only part thats decorated. There are Christmas trees all over, and a bunch of other cool Christmas decorations.

The Blue Lights

The main thing you'll notice about Graceland around the holidays is all of the blue lights that line the drive way. I've heard that Elvis saw that out in California, and loved it, so he brought the idea home to Memphis. Also, I'd heard they had to inform the Memphis airport that they were doing the blue lights so that they could make sure planes didn't try to land at Graceland when they saw all of the blue lights from above. I don't know how true that is, but its definitely a cool story.

These are some of my pictures from when I saw Christmas at Graceland.

All Lit Up

We got to Memphis during the afternoon, so we didn't see Graceland all lit up for Christmas until that night. It was awesome to see in person.

Blue Lights Up The Driveway.

Those are the blue lights I was telling you about. They go all the way up the driveway, and Graceland has a pretty long driveway.

The Nativity Scene

This is the Nativity Scene they use at Graceland. I'd seen pictures of it before, but it was a lot bigger in person.

Elvis' Christmas Greeting

Elvis had this custom sign done in the 1950s when he bought Graceland. This is still the one they use to this day. It is the original one.

Christmas Trees Everywhere!

Pretty much every room in Graceland has at least one Christmas tree in it this time of year.

More Trees!

The Scene That Greets You

This is the first thing you see when you walk in Graceland. Red poinsettias up and down the stairs, and the special red curtains that they only use at Christmas.
