Earlier this week we announced that Cole Swindell is coming to the 20th anniversary of Rock Fore! Dough. We had the chance to catch up with Cole this morning. We talked about him coming back to his home state. Also, we asked him how wedding planning was going, and we asked Cole to make a prediction on who he thought was going to win The Masters this year.

Here is our conversation with Cole Swindell from earlier this morning:

Dub [00:00:00] It's your Wake Up Krew, dub and Cody with you this morning. So earlier this week we finally got to let the cat out of the bag.

Cody [00:00:06] Finally.

Dub [00:00:07] We've been sitting on this information for a couple of weeks now and everybody's been like, hey, you know who's coming to Rock Fore Dough? Did I miss it? And I was like, no, you didn't miss it. We can't say anything yet.

Cody [00:00:16] Yeah, the tickets were on sale and everybody's like, but who's going to be there?

Dub [00:00:19] Yeah, yeah. And so we still have, you know, another artist or two to announce next week, but we can tell you that our boy Cole Swindell is coming back to Georgia, and we got Cole on with us. What's going on, man?

Cole Swindell [00:00:32] Oh, man. I'm so excited. It's just like I said, it's a big, big week. And sorry it took us a minute to figure it out, but I'm glad y'all could finally announce it. And I've got my buddies texting me, and everybody seems excited. So I know it's a huge week. And for us to be down there to help kick it off, man, I'm pumped.

Dub [00:00:48] Well, it's going to be, it's a big show. The 20th anniversary of Rock Fore Dough. We got a Georgia boy coming back in. Now Cole, I know like we've been down with Cole Swindell since day one, so I know that you love a few things. You love some football, you love some baseball, and you love golf. So what does it mean to you to be in Augusta for Masters Week?

Cole [00:01:09] Oh, I mean, you know, just thinking about that, it makes me, you know, think of my dad. And just he taught me the game and that's something that we always loved to do was watch the tournament. You know, I've only actually been to the tournament like one time, years back, but, it's, you know, I'm always, always be a big golf fan. And it's just it's honestly one of my favorite things to do. And he, he always told me there's something hopefully you can do for a long, long time.

And, out of all the sports I've played, golf's really about the only one that, I still do, and I still love to play. So, like I said, it's just a special place. Obviously a special tournament. And, I don't know, I can't... It's just to be there during the tournament. You know, it's going to be a little different than watching on TV. So I'm so excited to get to hang and see some, yeah, some of my Georgia folks and and just, yeah, there for a good cause.

Dub [00:01:57] Oh, yeah. Man, First Tee is a great cause. And it's there's nothing like being in Augusta Masters Week. It's just like a completely different place.

Cody [00:02:05] Oh, yeah. Absolutely. And we got to say congratulations, Cole. We know you got engaged last year. You proposed to Courtney. So now we got to ask, how's wedding planning going?

Cole [00:02:15] It's it's going great. Funny, yeah. just the other day, we had, a few meetings about it, and it's starting to, you know, Courtney and I, you know, we've talked about, you know, seem so far away. And then before you know it, it's we're literally months away, you know, so it's, it's going great, though. I honestly feel like it took me a while, to get to that point, but to the point I wondered if it was ever going to happen and just, you know, enough people said, when, you know, you know. And I was like, I don't know. I don't know if I am going to know.

Dub [00:02:41] Yeah.

Cole [00:02:42] You definitely do. I think they are completely right. And it's just been it's just been fun to, you know, it's been get know, I'm going to get to spend, you know, forever with, with someone and but wedding planning though. Yeah. It's it's exciting and a little, a little nerve-wracking, I think. But,it's gonna be a big day and just, excited for family and friends.

Cody [00:03:02] Have you had a lot of say in the wedding planning, or are you just kind of like, whatever you want, babe?

Cole [00:03:07] I'm like, yeah, pretty much. I think I've learned everybody said, that's a good idea to say that.

Dub [00:03:12] Oh, dude, listen

Cody [00:03:13] He's learning early, happy wife, happy life.

Dub [00:03:15] You just show up at the meeting and sit there and go, uh-huh, yeah. Who needs the credit card?

Cole [00:03:20]  That's about all I said the other day was, I'm going to. I'll be there. You just, you know, you just, let me know when.

Dub [00:03:26] Yeah. Hey, when you need me, I'll be the fella standing next to the preacher with the suit on.

Cole  [00:03:31] Exactly. Yeah. She's. You know, I know she's dreamed of this day, and, I want it to be, you know, everything she's hoped for. So I'm just. As long as she's there, I'm. I'm good.

Dub [00:03:42] Hey, you know what? You know what? As long as you and her are both there. Honestly, that's really all that matters at the end of the day.

Cole  [00:03:47] It really is.

[00:03:47]  So, speaking of Masters Week and stuff, I'm going to put you on the spot, man. I know that we're still, you know, a little ways out, but I know that you keep up with the game. I know that you keep up with the Masters. I want Cole Swindell's way too early Masters prediction. But here's the cool thing. We're recording it right now, man. We got it on the air. So if you're right, you're going to look like a genius coming up in about a month. So who do you think wins the tournament this year?

Cole  [00:04:12] Oh my gosh that's such a tough, tough thing, man. You know, I'm, I've become pretty good friends with Justin Thomas, and that's, a tournament. I'd love to see him win. I know he, he would love that as well. So, you know, I'm going to. I got to go with my with my boy. I love him, the Max Homa, Ricky, Spieth, all those guys, but I don't I don't know, I'm just going to. I'm going with JT just because I hope, I'd love to see him get that green jacket.

Dub [00:04:38] Well, yeah. Amen. Well, and the cool thing would be now is on Master Sunday if Justin Thomas is wearing that green jacket, Cole Swindell's sitting there going called it! Called that a month ago, y'all.

Cole  [00:04:48] No, I know, I will be, celebrating, right along with everybody that's a fan of his. So, but like I said, if, you never know, I can't imagine, you know, coming into Sunday and being in the lead or having a chance to win. I get nervous on the first tee for nothing and they're out there playing for a green jacket.

Dub [00:05:06] Yeah.

Cole [00:05:07] I wouldn't wanna be in their shoes.

Dub [00:05:08] We're eight beers deep just hoping to not hit it in the woods.

Cole  [00:05:11] Absolutely.

Cody [00:05:12] All right, Cole, so there's one question that we ask to every single artist we talk to. Alright, so you've had quite a bit of success at this point. But we want to know what did you do with that first big country music check. Like what did you spend it on?

Cole [00:05:27] First big...  man that seems like forever ago. But I remember, the probably my favorite thing I've ever done. It was, you know, it's been several years back, but, I got my mom a house. That was, you know, pretty high on my list because she did, so much for me and, I miss her every day. But just having a house still in Georgia, you know, that's, it'll always be home to me.

I don't get back there much, but I think, you know, that was a. If I was going to spend some money on anything, that was definitely, definitely something that that was worth, Worth the money. So I know how happy it made her in last years. So it's been it's been amazing to to know I could, you know, do something I love and be able to give something back to her that she, you know, she gave me everything. So, that was probably the, the biggest thing for sure.

Dub [00:06:14] Well, I guarantee you, every mom out there in Kicks Country right now is wiping their eyes, man.

Cody [00:06:18] Yeah, that was that was great. I love that.

Dub [00:06:21] That's really cool. And, Cole. Hey, man, we cannot wait to see you at Rock Fore Dough. The 20th anniversary coming up Tuesday, April the 9th, Masters week, Tuesday. Cole Swindell coming back to Georgia. It's going to be a party, buddy. We can't wait for you to get here.

Cole [00:06:34] Hey, thank you all. And thank you all for being, you know, just as excited as I am . Georgia, I miss it all the time. And to be there such a special week. Being a huge golf fan and fan of the National, it's going to be, it's going to be great. I cannot wait to see you. Y'all see all of Kicks Country and y'all, make sure you come say hi and I'll grab ya a beer.

During our conversation, you heard me say we go way back with Cole Swindell. Here are some of my memories with him over the years.

Dub’s Memories With Cole Swindell

I've been fortunate enough to have some memories with Cole Swindell. Today is Cole's 40 birthday, so I figured today would be a great day to reminisce on some of those memories. I go way back with Cole, and its really cool how he has never forgotten us here in the CSRA. He's always there to help us when we need him. You'll hear some of those stories, just read on.

I remember the day we were first introduced to Cole Swindell. He was a brand new artist and came by to play us some of his music. We were so impressed, we knew this guy was going to be a star. After he sang, Cole and his band and record rep went with us to Big Daddy's. Big Daddy's is a BBQ place that used to be next door to the radio station.

While we were there we told Cole that we were going to officially start playing his song "Chillin' It" that Monday. He was so excited and we started doing shots of Fireball! Cole has never forgotten that, we still talk about that story. Cole has played our Guitar Pull on two separate occasions, he played in 2016 and 2018.

Another cool Cole story is being able to help him celebrate his birthday with 20,000 of y'all. It was announced that Cole was going to headline the Independence Celebration at Fort Gordon back in 2016. The show just so happened to fall on Cole's birthday, and 20,000 people showed up to help him celebrate. I just remember how blown away he was by that.
