3 Reasons Why You Should Visit This Dive Bar In North Carolina

A dive bar is Americana at its finest. Everyone is there for the same reason: to have a good time, enjoy a cold beer, and chill. Recently, I stumbled (I know, bad choice of words) upon the most unique dive bar I've been to.

If you're looking for a clean floor, excellent wait staff serving you a cold one, and big screen TVs everywhere, you'll need to go somewhere else, but if you want to relax and meet some fellow dive bar lovers, you'll love this place. Trust me, here are 3 reasons why you should visit this dive bar in North Carolina.

Dive Bar And A Beach

1- It's on the coast, in the small coastal town of Carolina Beach. There is plenty to do here, and after a day of beach therapy, a cold beer is a great way to start the evening. The first reason for visiting this dive bar is the name, The Fat Pelican. I mean, come on. That's a great name. It screams you are going to have a lot of fun here!

2- You walk in, look around, and feel like you have found the best dive bar ever. You go to the counter and ask for a beer, and they point you to a big, icy, walk-in cooler full of.....you guessed it, beer. You walk into the cooler, grab one of the hundreds of beers, and take it to the register to pay. The selection is huge.

3-  The furnishings. I'm kidding, but not. The chairs and tables here obviously have been around for a while. Next to every chair is a table for your beer. Inside and outside, you'll find comfortable places to sit. On the outside, you'll find umbrellas on some of the tables to protect you from the hot Carolina rays, but I prefer to do without one and get some sun while having a beer.

Top 30 In America

I also saw a barber chair outside, raised decks, old signs, a table consisting of a pole in the center of an old tire and wheel, and a piece of a large tree stump on top. There is an old ATM, a TV playing black and white movies, and paintings on the walls.

This is the ultimate dive bar. As a matter of fact, this bar is among the top 30 dive bars in America. If you love a dive bar, put the Fat Pelican in Carolina Beach, NC, at the top of your list!

Also, you can check this one out in South Carolina.
