Dolly Parton To Return To CMA Fest This Year
Dolly Parton knows the devotion of her fans worldwide, and it could be one reason the country icon will kick off CMA Fest 2024 in Nashville this year.
Over the last twenty years, Dolly has only attended CMA Fest a couple of times, and seeing her there is a rare treat.
Parton will be kicking off Fan Fair X on Thursday morning (6/6) of CMA Fest, to take part in a very special conversation on the CMA Close Up Stage. Fans also won’t want to miss Parton’s ALL ACCESS! Pop Up Experience at Fan Fair X, open every day. The Experience will feature many of Parton’s global branding and merchandise items.
Dolly has chatted with me often over the years about her fans and their love for her. A few years back, she told me, “They are just so devoted you can’t keep from loving them with all your heart for loving you like that.”
She noted many of her fans getting tattoos of her on their bodies, “You feel almost responsible in a way like, ‘Eww, you snared up your skin with a picture of me, you’re never gonna get that off.’ You know, it’s like ‘You’re’ gonna be buried with me.'”

While the country icon is not expected to perform at CMA Fest (although she may surprise us all as she often does), in the same interview a few years back, she talked about how risky taking the stage can be.
When asked if she ever took a tumble on stage while performing, she told me, “I popped my dress years ago, and the zipper…Richard (in her band) saw it coming down. He came and got me put the guitar…handed me the guitar ’cause it was kinda coming loose from the back, so he walked me off stage.”
She added with a giggle, “I remember once I almost tripped, almost slid or fell. I don’t know exactly what was happening, but he caught me before I, you know, went down, ’cause I wear these high heels…but you gotta be careful.”
Following an unforgettable first day, Fan Fair X will welcome some of country’s hottest stars featured as CMA Fest Artists of the Day—Cody Johnson takes the CMA Close Up Stage on Friday (6/7), Thomas Rhett on Saturday (6/8, and Lainey Wilson (6/9) on Sunday.
Dolly’s Beyonce Intro
The country icon recently did an intro to Beyonce’s version of “Jolene” dubbed “Dolly P,” where she says, “Hey Miss Honey Bee, it’s Dolly P. You know that hussie with the good hair you sing about? It reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair, bless her heart. Just a hair of a different color, but hurts just the same.” Dolly is referring to a line in Beyonce’s “Sorry,” from the Lemonade album, where she warns, “He only want me when I’m not there/He better call Becky with the good hair.”
