3 Fun And Inexpensive Things to Do In South Carolina
South Carolina is known as the Palmetto State and is well known for its beautiful beaches, mountains, and great small towns. I’ve lived here most of my life and still love exploring this beautiful state.
There are about 32,000 miles to explore in South Carolina, including 187 miles of coastline. I always gravitate to the Carolina coast, whether North Myrtle, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, or Folly Beach. Also, the Blue Ridge Mountains are breathtaking and a cool summer getaway. This state has just about everything to offer.
3 Fun And Inexpensive Things to Do In South Carolina
Ok, nothing serious here; this is just my 3 fun and cheap things to do in my home state, South Carolina. We’ll start in the state’s foothills outside of Walhalla, SC. My parents owned a restaurant in this small town leading to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and we spent a lot of time there.
Yellow Branch Falls
One of my favorite memories is spending a Sunday at Yellow Branch Falls on Highlands Highway, a short drive from Walhalla.
Mom would always pack lunch, and Dad would put a watermelon in the cold mountain stream to chill while we had lunch in the picnic area. For dessert, we had the chilled watermelon, which was always so good. You should also check out the waterfall at Yellow Branch, which is a 1.3-mile hike.
Admission is free. From Walhalla, SC, drive west 6.8 miles on SC Highway 28, and turn left into Yellow Branch Picnic Area.
Botany Bay Boneyard
Step back in time here. Botany Bay is just outside Edisto Island and one of the prettiest places you’ll find in South Carolina. This is worth a trip. Just make sure you check times for high tide before you go. You can’t access this beach during high tide.
Botany Bay’s boneyard is worth a few hours of taking pictures and exploring. They also offer a self-guided drive through this old plantation. The address is Botany Bay Rd, Edisto Island, SC. Admission is free.
James Island State Park
Enjoying the James Island County Park in Charleston is not free, but it is inexpensive. $2.00 is not bad for great hiking trails, beautiful scenery, saltwater fishing, crabbing, and much more. I visited this state park while staying a few days at nearby Folly Beach. Plan on spending a couple of hours because there is much to see and do.
Also, The Holiday Festival of Lights takes place at James Island County Park from November 15th through December 31st. The James Island County Park is located at 871 Riverland Drive, Charleston.
Enjoy saving money and having fun, and I’ll see you on the road!
