There is a rare Masters badge that was auctioned off recently for BIG money! A badge from the first Masters, or as it was called in 1934, The Augusta National Invitation Tournament, just sold for over $470,000. It wasn't just a ticket to the first Masters, it was also signed by the first Masters winner Horton Smith as well as golf legends like Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen.

The Story Behind The Rare Masters Badge

So how was this rare Masters badge even found in the first place? Well according to an article in Golf Digest, it really is a miracle. There aren't a lot of badges from the 1934 tournament still in tact. In fact there are only three known to exist. One was sold to a private collector for over $600,000 back in 2022, and Augusta National has the other one.

This rare Masters badge was in the possession of a Carolina couple. The badge had been passed down to them and they really weren't big golf fans so they decided to sell the badge. The badge had a reserve bid of $40,000, however it went for way more than that. The exact number was $470,857, which made it the second highest ticket to a sporting event ever auctioned off. A ticket to Jackie Robinson's first Major League Baseball game holds the record.

So who bought this rare Masters badge? It was Marcus Burnell of The Azalea House, which is a Masters hospitality house. Marcus has put together quite a collection of golf memorabilia, including Masters badges. I think it's pretty cool that a ticket to the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, aka The Masters, just sold for over $470,000, and it'll stay in Augusta, pretty much right across the street from the place the first tournament took place.

Speaking of The Masters, one of my favorite things about the tournament is the concessions. Here are my favorite Masters concessions.

My Favorite Masters Concessions Every Year

The Masters concessions are one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. Of course in my opinion, The Masters Tournament is the greatest golf tournament in the world. The experience you have at Augusta National Golf Club is second to none. People always come away talking about the beauty of the course, they also talk about the craziness in the golf shop, and how affordable the food is.

Amazing Golf And Affordable Food

If you've been to any sporting event recently then you've probably noticed how expensive food and drinks are. That's never been the case at The Masters. Masters concessions have remained pretty much the same price for years. Even if prices do go up, it may only be by fifty cents or a dollar. I was able to attend the 2024 Augusta National Women's Amateur this past weekend, and I can tell you, beer is the most expensive thing on the menu. A beer will cost you $6. However, that same beer at any other sporting event is going to cost you at least $10.

One of the most famous Masters concessions is the pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches. Those are the ones that everyone has to try when they go to The Masters. And just like everything else, they're affordable. Each sandwich is only $1.50, and that price hasn't changed in years. If you don't like egg salad or pimento cheese, don't worry, those aren't the only sandwich options. They have a bunch of other ones including a Masters club and a BBQ sandwich.

When it comes to Masters concessions, I also love the cookies and the chips as well as the Georgia pecan caramel popcorn. Those are things I have to get every year. Also, if you've never tried the Georgia peach ice cream sandwich at The Masters, you've got to have one!

I tried this stuff a few years ago, and now I'm hooked. I get bags to eat at the tournament and bags to take home for later.

The Potato Chips

They have two chip options at The Masters. Regular and BBQ, it doesn't matter which ones you get, they're all both good!

The Cookies!

They have several cookie options at The Masters, but the chocolate chip cookies are definitely my favorite.

The Egg Salad Sandwich

The two most iconic sandwiches at Augusta National are the pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches. I prefer the egg salad sandwich.

Is Beer A Snack?

Of course you can't walk away from the Masters concession stand without a drink. And whether its a soda or a beer, make sure you keep the cup!
