This small town in South Carolina is like many along backroads in the South. You see plenty of farmland and small businesses, and you’ll usually get stuck doing 10 miles an hour for a mile or so behind a tractor, which is my favorite part.

But this town is different. It has an Amish community. Yes, in South Carolina. Blackville, SC, to be specific. Most of the Amish population in America is in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Ohio.

The small Amish community in Blackville has a few businesses, a church, and even an Amish schoolhouse. The town's total population is just under 3,000.

In the downtown area, you’ll see Miller’s Bread Basket, serving delicious Amish-Mennonite home cooking, as the sign says. They bake their bread fresh at this popular eatery, too.

Another must-stop is the Healing Springs Country Store. It is a place where you can get sandwiches, a good hot dog, and even water bottles to fill water from God’s Acre Healing Springs.

God's Acre Healing Springs In South Carolina

Many have been coming for decades. Believers of the water load pickup trucks with containers, filling them one at a time from a spigot that flows 24-7. It is a natural artesian spring that is always cold, even in the summer. Native Americans and people from all over the world claim the water has healing properties. It is also believed it is the only piece of land in America that is deeded to God.

Tee has worked with KICKS 99 for over 24 years as Operations Manager and Program Director and is on-air each afternoon 3p-7p. When he’s not working, you’ll find him traveling the back roads, taking pictures, and searching for the next dive diner. Favorite place to visit? That’s easy. Folly Beach, SC. He’s usually there at least a few times a year. He lives in North Augusta and on Saturdays in the fall, you’ll find him cooking out and watching his Clemson Tigers. Tee likes to write about travel, Augusta local dive bars and diners and destinations in the Carolinas, as well as new business.
