CSRA Light The Night – Raising Funds To Help End Blood Cancers
Each year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) hosts Light The Night. This is a special event that honors those fighting and the survivors of blood cancers, and remembers those who lost their fight. It’s also an event that helps raise funds to support blood cancer patients and their families, fund lifesaving research of various blood cancers., and advocacy. Mark your calendar for this special event.
Light The Night In The CSRA
This year’s event is coming up Thursday, October 3rd at Evans Towne Center Park. The event will have vendors, food trucks, sponsor booths, and more. Families will share their stories and fundraising goals will be announced. The night will finish up with a walk around Evans Towne Center Park with the lighted lanterns.
Participants will receive a lighted lantern upon arrival. There are three colors: white, yellow, and red. White is for the survivors, yellow is for rememberance of someone you’ve lost, and red is for those supporting the cause. During the program, you’ll be asked to raise your lantern. This is one of the most powerful moments during the night, when you see those survivor lanterns convene at the survivor circle. That is why we raise funds for LLS through Light The Night.

I’ve Accepted The Challenge
In previous years, I had the honor of emceeing the event and also just attending the event. This year, I’ve been asked to take on the challenge as a member of the Light The Night leadership board. My fundraising goal is $5,000. You can donate HERE.
When I was asked to join, I thought about my why. And it wasn’t a hard one. Years ago, I met this little boy named Lucas. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017. Despite that diagnosis, Lucas was one of the sweetest and happiest kids. Meeting him was life changing for me. Seeing a child having to endure something that NO ONE should have to go through, and doing it with such a sweet spirit and resilience had such an impact on me.
I routinely check in on Lucas, through a Facebook page his mom set up. And it breaks my heart to know that Lucas is still fighting this terrible disease. That’s one reason why I want to help raise funds… so LLS can do more research and help find treatments that can give kids like Lucas a fighting chance, and hopefully, with less longterm side effects.
Then, there’s Levi. I met him just a couple of years ago during the Kicks 99 Christmas Wish. Yet again, another young boy fighting a terrible disease. And just like Lucas, Levi is still fighting. Unfortunately, some of the treatments he’s had to undergo have left him with zero immune system, which makes it extremely dangerous to go anywhere, even school. It breaks my heart to think about how scary and isolating it must feel.
While these are just two examples of children right here in the Augusta area that are fighting leukemia, there are SO many more. By donating to Light The Night, you can help kids like Lucas, Levi, and all the others. The funds raised help LLS fund treatment for patients suffering from all forms of blood cancers. Let’s bring light to the darkness of cancer. You can donate HERE between now and October 3rd. Help me reach my goal.
