Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren will celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary this Saturday, October 12th. They’ve known each other since they were in elementary school, and Thomas always knew Lauren was the love of his life.
One of the things Rhett loves most about Lauren is her honesty and willingness to tell him what she thinks when he asks her opinion. After shows, he often looks to his wife to give a real opinion of what she thinks. Was he flat or not? Did he sound great? Does she think the fans related to him at the show?
Thomas recently told us, "There are some times, those shows where we both feel it, where I’m not on or like something happened in the show where it just ruined me for the rest of the night. And I kind of like start to just close my eyes and sing songs and hope the rest of the show goes well, and those are the nights where Lauren goes, ‘Honey, you can’t let those things get to you because most of the time people don’t know if your E string on your guitar was out of tune.'"
He added, "'Only you know that, and only you can get in your head on that stuff.’ And so it’s nice to have somebody to really kind of bring you back down to earth after a show."
Rhett released his new seventh studio album, About A Woman, in August (8/23). The album has many songs written by Thomas, but one that was not. It's an interpolation song that pays tribute to one of the biggest pop songs of our time: Whitney Houston's 1987 smash, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."
An interpolation (also called a replayed sample) refers to using a melody— or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics)— from a previously recorded song but re-recording the melody instead of directly sampling it.
In a recent interview, Rhett told us of having to include a unique song on this project. He said, "'Don't Wanna Dance' was one of the only songs that I didn't write for this project. Ryan Hurd actually wrote that song; I was driving down the road on Music Row, and on the MP3, it just said 'Whitney.' And I was like; I have no idea what that means, so I played it, and I'm listening, and I finally get to the chorus, and I'm like, 'Holy crap.'"
