The SPCA Albrecht Center just split up a huge gift of cat food among local groups in Aiken, South Carolina. Best Friends Animal Society and Birdie & Louie sent 38,880 cans to help feed area cats.

Five packed pallets rolled in on Tuesday's truck. Within hours, workers started passing out food to nine different groups that help animals.

"Thanks to all of you who are part of this community, looking out for our collective cat population," said SPCA shelter manager Allison LaBorde to WRDW/WAGT. "I'm so glad we have been able to share in this gift."

As soon as word came about the donation, marketing director Sarah Neikam sent messages to local groups to coordinate the distribution.

The Aiken County Animal Shelter, Kitty Konnection, the McCormick County Humane Society, Hands to Paws, Friends of Felines, Dog & Cat Networking Agents, and That's What Friends Are For Inc. all received a share of the donation.

Two local business owners — Wayne Heath from Wayne Heath Automotive and Jenn Kraus of Uprooted Vegan Cuisine — took supplies to give out in their areas.

The cans will not only feed the cats in the shelters, but they will also go to foster families, partner rescues, and community caregivers.
