Starting fall 2025, Augusta Tech and the city's fire squad have joined forces on a 64-credit program that molds students into skilled EMTs and firefighters.
Students who enroll in the five-term, 64-credit hour course walk away with more than just a degree. The training grants them EMT and firefighting badges at both basic and advanced levels. Each graduate earns an Associate of Applied Science while mastering vital rescue skills.
"This partnership is a major step forward in building a safer, stronger Augusta," said Fire Chief Antonio Burden in an Augusta Tech release. "By combining our field expertise with Augusta Tech's outstanding academic resources, we're creating a direct pathway for individuals who are ready to answer the call and serve with excellence."
The course blends theoretical learning, practical training, and clinical experiences. Students split time between desks and drills, then put their skills to work in real medical settings. This mix preps them for the tough calls ahead.
Interim president of Augusta Tech, Dr. Melissa Frank-Alston sees big things ahead. "This collaboration not only strengthens our commitment to workforce development but also ensures that our region's first responders are equipped with the skills, education, and credentials needed to serve and protect our community at the highest level," she said.
Graduates will be equipped to step into entry-level positions in fire and emergency services, supporting the community's need for skilled first responders.
