Umoja Village will host its fifth annual Black History Month Community Celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the USCA Convocation Center. This year's venue had to change because all four previous celebrations sold out.

American Idol Season 23 winner Jamal Roberts will be providing a specially recorded 20-minute performance that will be shown during the celebration.Roberts won't attend in person because the GRAMMY Awards are happening the same day in Los Angeles. December 2025 brought him a GRAMMY nomination for a duo performance with gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds.

Other performers include singing sensation Christina Shorter of Augusta, the youth of Created 2 Play Drumline, Second Baptist Christian Preparatory School students, and poet Brittany Pixley. The program will honor the 12 Umonja Village Unsung heroes featured in the "2026 Umoja Village Celebrates Black Excellence" calendar.

The Weather Channel's on-camera meteorologist Mikel Hannah-Harding will host this year's ticketed event. Hannah-Harding worked before with WRDW News 12/26.

The full program will celebrate the history and contributions of Black and African American people.

SRP Federal Credit Union serves as the presenting sponsor. The full program will celebrate the history and contributions of Black and African American people. Tickets cost $50 for the stands and $25 for bleachers.
