Dollar General Gives 1.6 Million Pounds of Food to Georgia Food Banks
Dollar General donates more than 1.6 million pounds of food to Georgia food banks with 555,000 pounds going to Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta.

Dollar General handed over more than 1.6 million pounds of food to five Georgia food banks through its work with Feeding America. Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta received over 550,000 pounds.
The gift tackles hunger statewide. Rural areas get priority because many people there can't find cheap food nearby. Feeding America says nearly 48 million Americans go hungry.
"As hunger continues to affect nearly 48 million of our neighbors nationwide, Dollar General is proud to partner with Feeding America and their affiliated food banks to help families in more than half of U.S. counties access nutritious foods," said Denine Torr, vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy at the retail chain, per WRDW.
Torr explained the company backs solutions that fight food scarcity in communities. She pointed out how critical it is to assist rural regions where residents struggle to afford groceries or find stores selling them.
Golden Harvest Food Bank praised the gift. It fuels their mission to feed people who need help.
