The Kicks Wake Up Krew

A couple of weeks ago I decided to sign up for the Run United in Aiken… another half marathon.  This would be my second half marathon of the year.  And I’ll be honest, I hadn’t really been consistent with my training.  But after doing this one last year (after a medical issue earlier that week), I thought… maybe I can do this one.  It’s a pretty flat course.  And downtown Aiken is a beautiful place to run.  So, I committed to doing it.

Run United In Aiken – My Half Marathon Experience

But, I will say, I wasn’t prepared– mentally or physically.  I was kicking myself last week because I felt so unprepared and everything seemed to ache.  I told myself I was going to go and just enjoy it.  The goal wasn’t to break any records.  But I can be a bit competitive… and I wanted to at least get close to my best time for a half, which is around 2:22.

Overall, it wasn’t a terrible run.  The weather was beautiful, and it is a flat course.  But my body was not in it.  About 4-5 miles in, I started feeling kinda achy. And probably about 7-8 miles in, my legs just felt like they were cramping up.  There was quite a bit of walking and running intervals for the second half of the run.

When I turned that corner and saw the finish line, I decided I was going to finish strong and started sprinting.  My official time was 2:28:25.  I did look back at my time from last year… and it was 2:48:39.  So this year was definitely better than last year.

And now that it’s over… going to be taking a few days off from running to rest my body and try not to overdo it!

Here are a few photos from the day!
