The Kicks Wake Up Krew

No matter how many times I run in this area, I can't get over the beauty of the Savannah River. Being by the water is super calming to me... so if I can run by the water, I'm going to as much as I can!

On Saturday morning, I decided to head to the North Augusta Greeneway for my run.  It was a beautiful, slightly cooler morning and I headed out without any real plan for how far I’d run.  I decided to go park at the soccer fields because I love being able to run by the river! It’s so funny… last week I learned that Dub had never really been on the North Augusta Greeneway!  I couldn’t believe it, because it’s truly one of my favorite places to run, walk, or bike.

Running On The Greeneway

One of my favorite things about the area of the Greeneway between the soccer fields and the river?  The fact that you’re more than likely going to see some great wildlife.  Especially going early in the morning, I almost always see at least a deer or two.  And this past weekend, I actually saw quite a few. Be sure to check out the photos below!

I decided to make Saturday’s run an “easy run.”  I’ve been listening to a podcast about running… and I realized there’s so much I still have to learn about running. I usually just go out and try to run as fast as I can.  While I know I should switch up my running, I don’t know how to truly build a running plan.  I thought I was doing just fine getting in 3 runs a week.  But since I want to run faster and without all the aches and injuries, I really need to work on my running plan.

An Easy Run

So, what was my easy run?  The podcast I’m listening to talks about building a base/foundation.  And it also talks about running based on your heart rate.  As someone who has asthma, my heart rate tends to be pretty high when I run.  The woman on the podcast talks about keeping your heart rate around 145.  And let me tell you… that was REALLY hard for me.  I felt like I was running SO slow!  I also had to walk a bit too in order to bring my heart rate down.

But, the good thing about a “no pressure” easy run… I didn’t set a distance or pace goal.  I also let myself stop and take some pictures along the way and enjoy the scenery!  And there’s SO much great scenery on the Greeneway.  It was a perfect, beautiful Saturday morning to take advantage of the North Augusta Greeneway.  If you haven’t been before, I highly encourage you to check it out.  There are a lot of areas where it’s shaded so won’t be as hot.  And if you’re a water lover like I am, you definitely have to head down toward SRP Park so you can enjoy views of the Savannah River and Brick Pond Park!
