Now the Greeneway connects to downtown with other positive changes on the way.

North Augusta has had this in the plans for almost a decade, and finally, North Augusta has just become more walkable.

The North Augusta Greeneway has a new connector to downtown. It starts on Georgia Avenue, goes in front of North Augusta Municipal Center, and connects to the Greeneway. It’s all part of the plan to make downtown a destination for the thousands of people who walk the Greeneway yearly.

The new connector will give easy access to downtown businesses, including the new Beacon Bluff project that is under construction now. Beacon Bluff will include retail, apartments, restaurants, and a recently announced future tenant.

North Augusta

The Greeneway, named after former Mayor Thomas W. Greene, is a 12-mile paved trail with several access points in North Augusta.

Other improvements to the area include access for boats on the Savannah River at Hammonds Ferry, which is nearing completion. Hammonds Ferry and Riverside Village are still growing, too, with more apartments planned for the area. This area is very active, with people on the Greeneway and many enjoying the restaurants and the Augusta Greenjackets at SRP Park.

Future plans include making the 13th Street Bridge pedestrian-friendly with designated walkways and two lanes for traffic on both sides separated by a raised median. Construction on the bridge will begin in 2025.

There will also be access to North Augusta’s Brick Pond and Greeneway from the bridge via staircases and a ramp. Specialized lighting under the bridge, viewing platforms, and decorated fencing will line the new bridge on both sides. Construction is estimated to take four years.

Many positive changes are coming to this riverfront community, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lived in North Augusta for years and have enjoyed seeing it grow while maintaining its small-town charm.

We’ll keep you updated on any more changes we see coming our way. North Augusta keeps getting better.
