The Augusta Canal – Sundays Are For The Dogs

After a great Saturday in Athens, we decided to make Sunday a day for the dogs! Honestly, they don't get out as much as I'd like them to. And when they do get out, they can be a bit much to handle. They just love people and get really excited. But Waylon also doesn't like to ride. So early yesterday morning, we took the top off the Jeep and headed for the Augusta Canal! It was another beautiful day to get out and enjoy.
Adventures At The Augusta Canal
We got to the Augusta Canal just before 8 a.m. First, we wanted to get there early enough that maybe it wouldn't be too crowded. And we also wanted to go before it got too hot. Getting Waylon in the Jeep was quite a feat, but he slowly warmed up and wound up sitting up and enjoying the views too!
Thankfully, it wasn't too busy to start when we got there. The pups were curious about EVERYTHING. And Waylon wanted to pee on everything. Haha. Overall, they did SO good though. We walked over five miles! Along the way, we stopped for some water breaks. And when we got to the clearing, we took a nice little break, and the pups even took a brief dip in the river to cool off!
I will say... I have got to do this more often! They had so much fun, and also slept really good last night!
After leaving the Augusta Canal, we went to Grovetown to grab coffee at Nine Line Apparel's Bunker Cafe. They are dog friendly, and as soon as we walked in the door, all of the ladies working were asking if they could have pup cups. Of course, we said YES! It was one of the reasons we came. They were so sweet to the babies!
Back At Home
After a busy morning, we ran to the grocery store and got some food to throw on the grill. Then we got back home and hung out in the backyard with the pups for the rest of the afternoon. Some friends came over and played with the pups too. So needless to say, the pups had a FULL day of excitement. And last night, I had to move them out of the way to get in bed. They were OUT! And slept all night long!
I've decided we need to try to do more outings with the dogs at least a few times a month. It's great for their socialization and great for exercise for all of us!
