I will be the first to admit... I'm a pretty awkward person. Or at least that's how I feel 99% of the time.  And sometimes I do things in front of other people that I am so embarrassed by. But the truth is... most of them are common embarrassing moments that we've all had at some point. That's the thing.  We're all human. And we all have moments that don't show us at our best.  I do have to tell you what got me thinking about this though!

One Of My Many Moments...

One day I was in a meeting with my boss.  It was just the two of us, talking about a variety of things.  He was in the middle of telling me something, and I decided to take a big sip of my hot tea. And... it went down the wrong way.  Immediately I started to cough.  At first, he thought I was laughing.  And then he realized I was actually choking on my drink.  My eyes were watering and I couldn't stop coughing.  I tried to talk, but my voice was raspy.  In my head, I was thinking, "I bet I look ridiculous."  After I finally stopped coughing, I joked that if a drink was going to take me out, I wouldn't want it to be hot tea!

But again... We've all had our moments, right? What's funny though... I started looking up common embarrassing moments.  And I also did a quick search on choking on a drink... And this TikTok came up, and the comedian explains the experience that I'm pretty sure we've all had!

Common Embarrassing Moments

As I searched for other common embarrassing moments, I came across a list from College Times. Here are some of the ones I can definitely relate to! These definitely make me feel better about myself because it just proves we're all awkward at some point.

Tripping

I swear this is probably the most common thing!  I can trip over my own two feet.  Or nothing at all.  And then there's that moment where you look around and hope like heck no one saw it! I always hope that I can play it off or that no one saw.  But let's be honest, in the moment, you only draw more attention to yourself as you look around to see who saw it!

Waving at someone

But they don't see you. Then you feel totally awkward.  OR, someone is waving, and you think they're waving at you. You're confused wondering how you know the person... only to realize they weren't waving at you. This has happened to me all too often. No matter what, it leaves me feeling ridiculous.

Texting the wrong person

It's bad enough when you send a text to the wrong person... worse if the text is ABOUT the person you accidently sent it to. If you're like me, you're going to multitask.  And it's either quickly respond to a text while doing something else, or not responding at all, possibly for hours, if not days. But those quick texts can come back to bite ya!

Walking by someone

And doing that awkward dance because you both try to go the same way. And then it happens again. Can we just all agree to use the rules of the road, and go to the right?

Missing your mouth

Somewhat related to my tea incident. But you go to take a drink or a bite of food, and miss your mouth completely.

Pull Vs. Push

Anyone else get a bit of anxiety when you walk up to a door and you're not sure whether to push or pull?  Somehow I always wind up doing the wrong one first. What's even worse is when the door is hard to open too... because then you feel silly trying to figure out why the door won't push or pull.

Creeping on Social Media

And accidentally liking a picture from YEARS ago! Does it show if you "unlike" it really quick? I have a feeling they still get notified, and then you look like a real creeper!

Voice cracking

I swear this happens to me a lot.  I start to talk, and my voice cracks or squeaks. And despite talking for a living, this doesn't go away!

Can you repeat that?

Having to ask someone more than once what they said because you didn't understand.  I've done this so many times, and yes, I've replied with a yes... and hoped for the best!

Stomach noise

As someone who's had a lot of stomach issues, this one gives me serious anxiety! Anytime I'm in a meeting where it's quiet, I just KNOW my stomach is going to make a crazy noise.

Random fact: I learned in high school that the term for intestinal gurgling sounds is called "borborygmi."
