Sometimes, we just need to get away. I love a good day trip, usually around 3 hours or less away from North Augusta. I'm an early riser, so on most Saturdays, I'm on the road at 6 AM and arrive at my destination no later than 9 AM.

Get Out Of Town: 4 Day Trips From Augusta Georgia

A few good day trips I've taken are good drives, which can be done mostly on back roads. The Charleston  trip involves some interstate travel, but you can stay on the back roads most of the time. Getting off the interstate adds a few more minutes to your trip, but it's worth it. It forces you to slow down and enjoy some country while traveling to your destination—these day trips from Augusta Georgia are great getaways.

I usually check out the area via YouTube or search the internet for information about the area I'm going to. This way, I'll find a great place to have coffee and find a few must-see areas while I'm there. Planning helps a lot. If I have plenty of time, I'll wing it, ride around, and discover things as I explore.

The four places you'll see here are great getaways and are beautiful to explore. All are close to the coast, which I gravitate to, except one, which is a very cool mountain town.

A few must-haves for my day trips: The Yeti Tumbler to keep my coffee hot on the way, especially since I get up really early to take off. I also fill my tank the night before, take my camera, and keep my phone fully charged to take pictures. I always try to find the best restaurant to have breakfast while I'm in the area. I have even found a podcast or two about the area, and I listen to them as I travel.

I hope you enjoy my 4-day trips from Augusta, Georgia. Get up early, grab a coffee, roll the windows down, and crank up some road music! Here's a bonus trip for you.

Happy travels!

Bluffton, SC - 2hr-20min

Many people know Bluffton as a small town they pass through on their way to Hilton Head, but this town is much more than that. The waterfront is beautiful, and the downtown area has plenty of excellent little shops and cafes. There is plenty of history here, too. This is a day trip worth taking.

The trip's highlight was the Church of the Cross In Bluffton, SC. Built in 1857. This may be the most photographed building in the area. The church is beautiful!

Clayton, GA - 3hr-2min

I discovered Clayton while I was visiting nearby Tallulah Gorge State Park. I did some shopping in Clayton after hiking at the state park. I hiked down to the suspension bridge and back up the steep stairs. If you go, be prepared for this hike. It's not easy. Enjoy lunch in Clayton after to recharge and discover the neat shops on their main street before heading home.

Charleston, SC - 2hr-44min

Charleston is one of the most visited cities in the world, and you could spend a week or more here and not see everything. This day trip is worth the pre-planning to ensure you know what you want to see there. Go hungry. Foodies love this historic city.

Tybee Island, SC - 2hr - 56 min

Tybee Beach is an old-school beach town with a few historic bars and a beautiful beach. Tybee is next to Savannah. The downtown area has some great restaurants, too and it's always nice to take a walk on the beach to clear your head. I loved my visit to Tybee Beach!
