Those who know me, You know that I am not ashamed to talk about my relationship with Christ and the love of Southern Gospel/Gospel music in general. so Here I Go!
The love of Country Music and Gospel Music can be traced back thousands of years. Country Music has been called the music of the working man for many years.
Sunday was the one day you took off and didn’t labor and went to church and spent time with the family. So it’s not a shock that Country Music and Gospel Music go hand in hand. The same core value systems are shared with these two types of music.
From as far back as the Carter Family to artists today, most learned to sing in church and sing the Gospel Hymns of the church.
I think personally most artists of any type of music had to be influenced by the church, Katie Perry, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, all kids of Pastors.
We know many artists over the years have recorded gospel albums or even just a gospel song on an album. Let’s also not forget the impact that gospel music has had on today’s country music over the years.
Songs like “Me And God” by Josh Turner, and “Go Rest High” by Vince Gill. “Jesus Take The Wheel” by Carrie Underwood, “I Saw God Today” by George Strait and the list can go on and on forever.
Artists like Alan Jackson (Who has recorded 2 gospel albums), Carrie Underwood, Johnny Cash, Josh Turner, Merle Haggard, and Elvis have all recorded gospel albums.
This could be a long list but here are some of my favorite Country artists covering gospel songs and Country Songs inspired by Gospel Music.
