The Kicks Wake Up Krew

When it comes to scary things, I’m all in or all out. As you may know, I am big on true crime stories.  And I’m also really fascinated by the supernatural and unexplainable mysteries of the world.  I’ve been known to subject myself to watching some scary movies… but I usually wind up being very jumpy and have a hard time sleeping afterward. I also don’t do haunted houses… that’s a story for another time!

I feel like I’ve seen quite a few scary movies in my life.  But when I went to do a Google search about them… I was surprised by how many I haven’t watched.  There were even a ton I’d never even heard of.

Why I Watch Them

To be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve watched a truly scary movie.  I’ve seen some psychological thrillers. And of course, plenty of true crime documentaries or movies based on true stories. But, every now and then, I do decide it’s time to watch something scary.

Maybe it’s for the adrenaline rush? I honestly don’t know!  I’ve been known to watch a scary movie with my hand over my mouth… because the jump-scare stuff gets me everytime.

When it comes down to it though, I’d much rather watch something that is realistic.  I’m not big on sci-fi and alien-type stuff.  If something might actually be possible, that’s what makes it the scariest for me.  A few movies that come to mind are “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (although I don’t think I watched the original one…).

Scary Movies I Have Watched

I don’t have the best memory when it comes to remember movies that I’ve seen… but I’ll share a few that I do remember!

  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
  • The Ring
  • Gothika
  • The Grudge
  • Paranormal
  • Psycho (I don’t remember much about this at all– but had to watch it for a film class in college)
  • The Uninvited
  • Hostel
  • Signs
  • Saw (just the first one, I think)

And I know there are probably a bunch more… But I just can’t remember.  I might’ve blocked them out for a reason!

Movies I Haven’t Seen?

I feel like these are “classics” that most people who are into scary movies have seen!

  • Halloween

Apparently, the first “Halloween” movie was made in 1978 and was Jamie Lee Curtis’s film debut.  I know Michael Myers is the main character that the film is centered on.  And I know the whole “Michael Myers” look… just never saw the movie!

  • The Exorcist

This one is slightly older than “Halloween.”  The original movie came out in 1973. I know it’s based on a novel and has something to do with exorcism.  But… that’s as much as I know.

  • Anything To Do With "Chucky"

It looks like the first “Chucky”-related movie was “Child’s Play.” That movie came out in 1988. And there are a few sequels.  While I know of Chucky, I have never watched a movie or TV show about him.  In fact, David and I just had a conversation about this the other day.  And David was quoting Chucky’s famous lines.  I don’t think I’ll ever want to watch this one…

  • The Shining

This is another horror film based on a novel.  This one is from 1980. I know Stephen King is famous for his horror novels!  But I had absolutely no idea what this movie was about.  I’ve heard of it, but couldn’t tell you anything about it!

  • Poltergeist

This is a 1982 film.  All I really know is it has to do with a ghost or ghosts? And there’s a famous scene with static on the TV.  But that’s really it!

  • The Amityville Horror (1979)

The original movie came out in 1979.  And it looks like there was a remake back in 2005. From what I saw, a family moves into a home where a mass murder took place and then experience some crazy stuff.  I also saw where it was based on a true-life haunting… So, now I might have to watch this one!

  • Rosemary's Baby

This is the oldest movie on my list.  This one was released in 1968. And yet another movie based on a novel. Based on what I saw on Wikipedia, a young woman suspects her elderly neighbors are members of a Satanic cult and want to use her baby for rituals.  It also says this is regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. Sounds like I might have to check this one out too.
