August 16 is National Roller Coaster Day! Today is the day that people are encouraged to enjoy their favorite amusement parks and get on their favorite roller coasters. While we might not have any roller coasters locally in the CSRA, we do have them nearby. Let’s kick back and discover some roller coasters in Georgia and South Carolina.

We decided to select roller coasters from Six flags over Georgia and Carowinds.

Are you a roller caster fan? Check out the roller coasters selected below!

These are the top 7 roller coasters in Georgia and South Carolina in no particular order.

  • Goliath – Georgia

This roller coaster goes 70 miles-per-hour. It reaches 200 feet in the sky with a 175-foot drop.

  • SUPERMAN: Ultimate Flight - Georgia

This ride is flies you around face down and head first. It is a 106-foot tall steel coaster with a ten story drop.

  • Twisted Cyclone - Georgia

This coaster is built of wood combined with a steel track. It has an insanely steep 75-degree initial drop, from nearly 10 stories in the air, perpendicular to the ground.

  • Riddler Mind Bender – Georgia

Revamped in 2021, this steel coaster climbs 80 feet in the sky, drops seven stories,  and takes you through a triple-loop at 50 miles-per-hour.

  • South Carolina Coasters

These rides are located at Carowinds. Carowinds straddles the state line between North and South Carolina.

  • Night Hawk - South Carolina

Carolinas’ first flying coaster climbs up to 115-feet lift, while riders are lying on their backs. Once at the top, Nighthawk’s track immediately flips, rotating riders so they are lying below the track, facing the ground.

  • Fury 325 - South Carolina

Fury 325 is North America’s longest steel coaster, and is over 1.25 miles long. The average ride time is 3.25 minutes, and the ride crosses both North and South Carolina state lines.

This coaster goes up to a height of 325 feet – following a dramatic 81-degree drop. Then riders race into a massive 190-foot tall barrel turn and a high-speed S-curve reaching speeds of up to 95 mph.
