One of my fondest memories as a child was taking the old-time ice cream maker out on the back porch and churning ice cream. These were not the electric ice cream makers we have today. I remember taking turns with my brothers and sisters cranking the handle. Mom would make the ice cream and Dad would watch and make sure we kept the rock salt applied and made sure we didn't stop cranking the handle.
