After a battle with lung cancer, actor Peter Fonda has died at age 79.

A rep for Fonda confirmed that he passed Friday (8/16) morning at his home in Los Angeles, and was surrounded by family.

Peter's family, including sister actress Jane Fonda, released a statement, saying, “It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away. [Peter] passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16 at 11:05 a.m. at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. The official cause of death was respiratory failure due to lung cancer. In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts."

Fonda, who is most famous for his iconic role in the 1969 classic, "Easy Rider," is the son of movie icon Henry Fonda.
