Elaina Smith, the new Backstage Country host, will be joined by Riley Green for her first week! From February 17 to 21, the duo will talk about Green’s writing process, his songs, working with other artists and making music videos.
Riley Green's Writing Process
Smith asked Green what he does after writing a song, specifically “Worst Way.” Green shared that after writing the song, he usually sends it to buddies back home. “I've got these guys I send songs to. That wasn't one of them, that song [you send] to your hunting buddy. I didn't play it for anybody for a long time. And finally, I just said, ‘Man, I'm going to cut this song.’ And I'm glad I did.”
Smith also asked what it was like to play the song in the studio for the first time. Green chuckled, “I think the word I said to the guys in the studio was ‘Play this song. But look at me when you think about the guy with boots and a camouflage hat on when you're playing it. And let's don't make it too pretty.’ And they did a great job with it.”
Making Music Videos
Since they’ve already been talking about “Worst Way,” Smith asked Green about the making of the music video. (We’re embedding the lyric video because the music vid is hot, hot, hot! But here’s the link to that spicy video. You’re welcome.)
He said, “Well, I'm an actor. I mean, I'm just playing a part here. It was a lot of fun.” Green chuckled, “Yeah, just make out for four hours and have a camera crew there with you. But I certainly wanted to make it fun and having the reaction of the people in the restaurant and kind of doing it cheesy where you're saying the lines of song and throwing in the roses or throwing the wine going into the house. I thought that was a pretty cool touch.”
Smith followed up and asked if it was the most fun video he’s made so far. Green laughed, “Yeah. I guess it would have to be. I mean, I certainly would not be doing that again.”
