A few years back, I went to the Key West Songwriters Festival. It was my first trip to this tropical island and is different than any of the road trips I’ve taken.
I found out that getting there is half the fun! I was living in St Pete at the time and drove and man…the views. The Overseas Highway connects Key West to the mainland and you cross about 40 bridges on your way. The longest is the Seven Mile Bridge, which is the most scenic bridge I’ve been on.
The food is incredible, too. Plus the nightlife! I bought a cigar in a small shop and as I paid, I asked the cashier who looked like a 70-year-old hippie and who wasn’t wearing a shirt, where I could smoke the cigar and he said, buddy, you’re in Key West…smoke it anywhere you like. This place has a vibe unlike anywhere I’ve been.
Also located on the island is the Little White House, Florida’s only presidential museum. The house was the winter White House for President Harry S. Truman for 175 days during 11 visits. It was really cool to see.
Here are a few pics for you from the Key West songwriters Festival.
