I’ve been on Facebook for 11 years now. I remember when I first signed up and began connecting with friends, “poking” was still a thing.

Basically, whenever someone poked you, you’d get a notification that you’d been...well, poked. There was a little blue finger icon next to the notification, along with an option to poke back. I never really understood what it meant, but hey, it was a simpler time and seemed pretty harmless, so I went with it.

Over time, pokes became less and less common on Facebook. In fact, I didn’t even realize that it was still a feature—until the other day, WHEN I GOT POKED.

It turns out, that the only thing creepier than getting poked on Facebook in 2021, is getting poked on Facebook in 2021 by a guy AT LEAST thirty years older than you, who is a complete stranger.

So...although poking is still a thing on Facebook, thankfully so is blocking. ;)
