First Visit To Sara’s in Edgefield, South Carolina
I have lived in North Augusta, South Carolina since March 2017. That’s over FIVE years. And technically, I live in Edgefield County… and yet, I have NEVER been to Sara’s Fresh Market. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Sara’s Fresh Market is a roadside produce “stand.” I say “stand” because it’s not a small little roadside produce stand like you might imagine!
Fresh Produce
At Sara’s, they’ve got a large selection of fresh produce. Things like watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions… and PEACHES! Now, I’m from Georgia. And fresh peaches are one of my favorite fruits. Although I rarely get them! So I find it hard to believe it’s taken me this long to check out Sara’s. I swear they had some of the BIGGEST peaches I’ve ever seen. And there were a TON of them. But, the main reason we made the trip? The peach ice cream!
Ice Cream
Everyone I’ve talked to said I had to try out the homemade peach ice cream at Sara’s. Now, again, I’m from Georgia, and I’ve had a lot of peaches and peach ice cream in my life. So… I set the standard pretty high! I will say, the ice cream did not disappoint. It was very sweet and almost like nothing but pureed peaches with sugar! My stepdaughter had the strawberry, and she said it was good. Might have to go back and try that one out too.
I will say, the ice cream was good… but nothing beats making homemade ice cream at home! Sara’s is good, but my mom always makes her peach ice cream with a vanilla base. I like the peaches and cream-type flavor. Not that Sara’s wasn’t good– just a preference! I don’t have an ice cream maker at home though, so I’ll have to settle for finding homemade ice cream at roadside stands like Sara’s for now!
