Downtown Augusta has a variety of restaurants to choose from, whether you're looking for casual dining or something a little more upscale for a date night. There are pizza places, Mexican restaurants, sushi spots, and more. And now, there's a new spot for BBQ in Downtown Augusta. And in a last-minute decision this past weekend, we gave Fifth & Fire a try.
Deciding Where To Eat
On Saturday, my fiancé and I were going to be headed to Downtown Augusta for the Lee Brice show at the Bell Auditorium. Since we rarely go downtown for dinner, I decided we should leave early and find a spot to try before the show. We wanted somewhere we could easily walk to from where we parked near the Bell. Once we found parking, we walked over to Broad Street. At the corner, I pulled up Google Maps. One of the closest places we hadn't yet tried was the new Fifth & Fire. We both love good BBQ, so that's where we decided to go.
Our Experience at Fifth & Fire
Upon arriving at Fifth & Fire, we were quickly seated. It was around 4:30 p.m., so we weren't in the middle of dinner rush. But there were already quite a bit of people there. At our table, the server brought us both a glass of water and took our drink orders. They have a full bar, along with a wide beer and wine selection. Since it was National Margarita Day (and margs are my favorite), I ordered a regular margarita. My fiancé ordered a Jack and Coke. Soon, the drinks were delivered and the server took our food order.
I opted for the pulled pork sandwich with fries, and my fiancé ordered the 1 meat and 2 sides - beef brisket, macaroni & cheese, and smoked baked beans. It didn't take too long for our food to arrive and we were blown away at the amount of food. My sandwich had enough pork that I could have easily made at least 2 sandwiches. We also got some of their house BBQ sauce on the side to try. And as someone who can be a bit picky about sauces, I was slightly anxious, but then pleasantly surprised. It was perfectly seasoned and not overly sweet.
My fiancé was extremely impressed with the brisket. You could have cut it with a fork, it was so tender. He also raved about the baked beans. As a macaroni and cheese fan, I had to give his a taste test. It was good, but not the absolute best I've ever had. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. Before we were finished, my fiancé was already saying we were going to have to come back again soon.
The Atmosphere at Fifth & Fire
On top of the great food, we loved the atmosphere. It is a very spacious area, and thankfully, even with a lot of people, it wasn't too loud. We could actually enjoy a conversation. Also, they have outdoor seating, which we walked to check out. It was covered with heaters going, and they also appeared to have two open-air brick rooms at the back where you could possibly host parties. They had a sign advertising cornhole, and I noticed a dart board in one of the back open-air rooms. It is definitely a cool environment that we will be back to enjoy again soon.
I can see it getting a little busy at prime dinnertime, but they do have a good bit of space and seem to get food out quickly, which will help with turnover and hopefully prevent too much wait time for guests. The service was great, the food was delicious, and we had a great time. Honestly, I think I'm still full! Just check out this video with some pictures inside Fifth & Fire and the food!
