Looking for a great walking trail in Augusta to get healthy for the new year? Here is one of my favorites. I usually start at the Augsta Canal parking area just below Lake Olmstead. There is a gravel parking lot that leads to a bridge over the Augusta Canal.
The trail I walked goes through wooded areas between the canal and the Savannah River, which makes for some pretty scenery. You'll cross a boardwalk or two and end up at the 15th Street Bridge in Augusta. From there, you cross the street and container to the Augusta Riverwalk and check out the Augusta Pedestrian Bridge before returning.
The walk to Savannah Rapids is a nice one, too. This Augusta walking trail is just one of many we have in the area. The Augusta Canal website is an excellent place to go for plenty of information on area trails.
There is also a very secluded, beautiful spot next to this trail. Check it out HERE!
I hope 2024 is your best year yet and you have fun getting out in nature in the coming year. I plan to do more of it, because it makes you feel much better! Augusta has many trails around the area, including across the river in North Augusta. I'll spotlight more of the best in the near future!
Happy hiking, walking, running, and Happy New Year!
The bridge as you get closer to downtown.

This is a great walking trail.

One of a few markers along the trail.

Augusta Canal is well kept.

I love this old road on this trail.

This is where I started. Great parking and restrooms, too.

Walking along the trail next to Riverwatch Parkway.

A view from the trail looking at North Augusta's Riverfront.

Great place to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Love this bridge!

Pretty views everywhere.
