A French-inspired restaurant will soon be coming to Hammonds Ferry in North Augusta. It is called Bistro 55.

The restaurant will replace the former Italian restaurant, DiVino Ristorante Italiano, They opened in 2016 and closed after 7 years this past May. Unfortunately, their Chef, Chef Leonardo, suddenly passed away.

Maurice Cohen will own Bistro 55. He is originally from Paris, France. He moved to the CSRA six years ago and fell in love with the area. Before coming to the Augusta area, he worked in the food service industry in Los Angeles.

Bistro 55 will be an upscale restaurant inspired by French and Parisian cuisine.

The restaurant is planned to be open by the end of this month.

Also located in Hammonds Ferry, is another restaurant that serves a variety of French-inspired dishes with some southern twists. It is called Manuel's Bread Cafe.

Here are some of the menu items included:

  • French Style Greek Salad
  • Steak Frite
  • Croque Monsieur
  • French Onion Soup

and much more. The menu for Bistro 55 has not yet been released.

Augusta was also home to C’est La Vie. Which was a pop-up restaurant located in Downtown Augusta during Masters Week. It received a lot of positive feedback and even some hopes for it to come to Augusta permanently. The pop-up restaurant was hosted at the Ramada Hotel on Broad Street by married couple Laetitia and Vincent Fernandez. They had lived in France, where they owned a pizza shop. When they moved to Georgia, they opened the first French restaurant in Washington, Georgia.

While the CSRA has many multicultural restaurants, there are not many focused on French cuisine and French dishes.

It may be safe to say that Augustans are certainly fans of French cuisine and we could possibly see more of these kinds of restaurants opening around the area, along with Bistro 55.
