I've always loved this song from Craig Morgan. This is a song that I got to play a lot when I first started here at Kicks. Last night I listened to this song for the first time in a while, and it still holds up, it's still just as good twenty years later.

The year was 2003, and I had been on the air as an actual employee here at Kicks99 for a few months. I was doing a show on Saturday nights. Of course I would take phone calls and requests and play as many of them as I could. When this song came out, everyone loved it and wanted to hear it as much as many times as possible.

In 2003, it wasn't like it is today. You couldn't get any song you wanted on demand any time you wanted to hear it. Either you waited until the CD came out and then you could play the song as much as you wanted. Or the other option was to catch it on the radio. The only problem was after I would play this song once, people wanted to hear it again and again. I don't blame them, its a great song.

Craig has been to Kicks Country many times over the years, and he always puts on a great show. My favorite part of a Craig Morgan show has alway been when he played this song.

"Almost Home" by Craig Morgan is whats on Dub's Playlist this week!

Speaking of some of my favorite things, check out my "Country Music Mount Rushmore".

Dub’s Country Music Mount Rushmore

If I had to put four faces on a country music Mount Rushmore, which four would it be? This might be one of the toughest things ever. I have to narrow down some of the greatest county stars ever to just four? There are only four faces on the actual Mount Rushmore, so I can't go adding faces.

The idea for this came from Tracy Lawrence actually. Recently, Tracy got a tattoo of the four artists that would be on his country music Mount Rushmore. They were George Strait, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley, and George Jones. How tough must that have been to narrow it down to just four? However, Tracy's four are pretty dang solid.

I've been thinking really hard about this. Who are my four going to be? After a lot of thought, I decided to go with two classic artists who've influenced countless others, and two that basically defined my life growing up. Narrowing this down to just four was so tough. If I could add faces on to Mount Rushmore I would.

If I could add faces, here are a few that I would add:

That would be my backup country music Mount Rushmore. By the way, if you want to read more about Tracy Lawrence's new tattoo that inspired this whole thing for me, you can check that story and pictures out here.

Here are the four faces that would be on my country music Mount Rushmore. These are in no particular order.

    Johnny Cash

He's one of the most iconic figures in not just country music, but all of music. His songs have stood the test of time, and he's still just as cool in 2023 as he was at Folsom Prison in 1968.

    George Jones

You won't find a better singer in country music history than George Jones. When George sang a country song, you felt it. You felt everything he felt. There isn't an artist who's ever come out of or through Nashville that wasn't influenced in some part by George Jones.

    George Strait

He's not called King George just because its a cool nickname. This man has over 60 number one songs. And thats not counting the huge hits that he's had that didn't go number one. George Strait is another artist who has influenced so many artists including Garth Brooks. I was going to put Garth on my Mount Rushmore, but George Strait inflected Garth. If we didn't have George we wouldn't have Garth.

    Alan Jackson

Alan Jackson makes my country music Mount Rushmore because his music made my childhood. It doesn't matter if it was my grandma's house, or my mom's car, Alan's music was always on. I know I'm know I'm not the only child of the 90s who grew up loving every song Alan Jackson ever put out.
