Lainey Wilson: What She Hopes To Tell The Rolling Stones
Lainey Wilson is one of many acts who has been invited to open stadium shows for the Rolling Stones this summer. Lainey will open for the Stones in Chicago at Soldier Field on June 30.
When we asked her about playing the opening slot for the rock icons earlier this month, she said, “Can you believe that? I am getting to play a show with the Rolling Stones. Yep, they are gonna have to roll me up out of there cause that is absolutely insane.”
Wilson did get a chance to catch them in concert a few years ago when they played the Music City. She recalled, “I got to see them; I think it was 2016 or 2017 down here (Nashville) at the stadium because somebody from my hometown was going, and they got sick. It just worked out so I could actually see them. I thought, ‘I might not ever get a chance to see them again.'”
She will indeed see them again, maybe face to face. Lainey told us, “I might have the chance to meet them and tell them how much the Rolling Stones have meant to country music and music in general. I can’t believe I am getting to share a stage with them. Mick Jagger is going to show me some new moves.”

We recently asked the country queen what she would tell her younger self about this pinch-me moment in her life she is currently having. She said, “I’d say, ‘It’s not going to happen as quick as you would like it to.’ When I moved here in 2011 in my little camper trailer, I thought, ‘You know, you’ve got to be there to make it.'”
She continued, “I thought that it would happen a lot quicker for me, but I realized in about year three that my journey was going to look a lot different. But just because the opportunities were not coming didn’t mean that I was going to quit.”
Wilson has no other path paved for herself. She said, “This is the only thing I know how to do. This is my life. Country music is my life, especially since we grew up in a town of 200 people. It’s more than a genre of music. We eat, sleep, and breathe it. It’s the try of our lives.”
