Cody Johnson Will Indulge This Thanksgiving
Cody Johnson has had a pretty amazing year in country music, selling out shows and winning awards including Album of the Year at the CMAâs last month. With Thanksgiving this week, Cody told us that heâs planning on indulging a little bit more than heâs used to.
He says that while heâs cut down on eating sweets, Thanksgiving is the one time he will have a helping or two. The country star told us in a recent interview, âMan, Iâve really changed my eating habits over the years, and Iâve grown to where I really donât like sweets anymoreâŠcome Thanksgiving, now thatâs different. Iâm gonna clean you out of the banana pudding, and all the pie and all that good stuff, cobbler, but not really a sweets guy. .I donât know why I grew out of that.â
Johnson won his third CMA award (11/20) when his album Leather won the coveted Album of the Year award.
Before the show, Cody told us how excited he was to be nominated for CMAs this year. He said, âAll the years of hard work that went into it, Iâm finally invited to the party, and thatâs incredible. I know people say this and it sounds like a clichĂ©, but just to be nominated is a win.â

The budding country superstar performed âIâm Gonna Love Youâ with Carrie Underwood, and it was one of the highlights of the CMA Awards. As Cody told us, itâs performing at an award show that makes him the most happy.
He said, âI cut my teeth in the bars and honkytonks playing live music, and I always enjoy the award shows and to perform on the CMAâs. Itâs probably my favorite part of it because thatâs my wheelhouse. Thatâs when I get to show everybody why Iâm nominated.â
The country star recently got the chance to play a hometown show in Arlington, Texas. Cody sold out his first-ever headline stadium concert, playing for 40,643 fans at Globe Life Field in his native Arlington.
To announce this show the singer attended batting practice and threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a home Texas Rangers game this spring and returned to the field to perform the National Anthem at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game in July.
Cody told us before the hometown show, âI havenât got a chance to play in Texas a whole lot, you know, obviously home is where the heart is, and thatâs my heartâs always in Texas. The one date Iâm looking forward to the most, the baseball stadium in Arlington. And I think thatâs just going to be amazing. I got to play it once in 2020 when the Wrangler NFR was there in Arlington, and itâs a pretty big deal.â
