What are the best country songs ever? That’s a question that’s always up for debate. Everyone is going to have an opinion on the best one. People are going to wonder why their favorite song or their favorite artist isn’t on the list. I also feel like everyone’s list is going to look different.

According to an article on StudyFinds.org, these are the best country songs ever. How did they come up with this list? Well, apparently they did a meta-study where they looked at data from a bunch of different sources. The folks at Study Finds looked at 8 different top country song lists from places like “Parade”, “Rolling Stone” and a bunch of others to compile this list.

I’m not going to spoil the Top Five just yet, but I’ve got a few problems with this list. The first problem is that “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones isn’t on it! You can’t have a list of top country songs of all time and not have that song on it. Many people, including me, consider that to be the greatest country song ever!

Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, none of them made this Top Five. How is that possible?! There are a couple of songs that I think definitely belong on the list. However, there are a few that I don’t think should be in the Top 5. Should they be on the list? Sure, but Top 5? I’m not too sure about that.

So according to StudyFinds.org, these are the best country songs ever, do you agree?

  • "I Walk The Line" by Johnny Cash

This is an iconic song. I feel like everyone either knows, or has at least heard this song at some point. Johnny Cash is also an American Icon. I can see where this song would land at number one.

  • "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver

Ok, so I don’t agree with this one. Is this a great song? Absolutely. Does it belong at number two on the list? Absolutely not! I think that if you’re going to put Johnny Cash at number one, then “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones has to be right behind it at number two.

  • "Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks

I’m totally ok with this song being in the Top 5. This is one of those songs that I feel like everyone knows. Not only does everyone know it, everyone loves it. If you want to get a reaction out of a big group of country music fans, start playing “Friends In Low Places”.

  • "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw

I love this song, I love Tim McGraw, but I just don’t know if it belongs in the Top 5. Does it belong on the Best Country Songs Ever list? Of course, but I just don’t know if you can put this one over “Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard.

  • "Jolene" by Dolly Parton

This is another song that I’m totally fine with it being in the Top 5. Dolly Parton is another American Icon, and this is definitely one of her most popular and most recognized songs.
