September 1, 2008, was a day that we lost a Country Music Legend. Jerry Reed, Jerry dies of emphysema at home in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Jerry was a singer, songwriter, actor, and just an overall funny man and loved by all.

His first shot at being a Country Music Star came in July of 1967. He wrote a song called “Guitar Man” Didn’t do so well for Jerry, it only went to number 53, but that song would come back in a big way. Elvis would go on to record it and it is a number one country song, but his last pop hit on the top 40 charts. Jerry played the guitar on Elvis’ version and the guitar you hear on the song was Jerry’s one and only recording.

Jerry’s first number one Country Song came in 1971 and it was “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot”. He went on to only have two more number Country songs. Lord Mr. Ford went number one in 1973, and “She Got The Gold Mine” in 1982

Jerry did have some other top 20 hits including a song that peaked at #2 on the charts, “East Bound And Down”, “Amos Moses”, “A Good Woman’s Love”, and “The Bird.

Jerry won 2 CMA Awards and 3 Grammy Awards.

Now let’s talk Jerry Reed movies. He did 22 movies but will always be remembered as Cledus “The Snowman” Snow from Smokey and The Bandit parts 1, 2, & 3. Jerry Reeds last movie was the Adam Sandler movie, “The Water Boy” where he played Coach Red Beaulieu.
