Twitter Is Attacking Fake Accounts And Deleting Them
The Washington Post shared a report that will be news to the bots and fake accounts that are all over Twitter.
According to the report, they have suspended “more than 1 million a day in recent months, a major shift to lessen the flow of disinformation on the platform.”
This, of course, is because of the backlash of politics, in reference to Russia and whatnot, but we also have to think that when they start abolishing these fake accounts, follower counts will drop for those would-be influencers that are out there.
Similar to the time that Instagram dropped a ton of fake followers, many will lose some of their “credibility by numbers” in this particular area.
They are also trying to figure out how to make Twitter a safer platform. Del Harvey, the Vice President of Trust and Safety for Twitter, is quoted in the report saying “One of the biggest shifts is in how we think about balancing free expression versus the potential for free expression to chill someone else’s speech… Free expression doesn’t really mean much if people don’t feel safe.”
As of right now, they believe at least 5% of Twitter users are fake users. The question is, where will they drop the line?
