Airbag Jeans For Motorcyclists
My fiancé, David, and I have had a motorcycle since… 2014? We bought a Harley-Davidson Streetglide, and just recently upgraded to a Roadglide. Until I met him, I’d never been on a motorcycle. When we first got together, he had a Hayabusa. That thing could go really fast. Thankfully, he didn’t try to scare me by going too fast when he started taking me for rides. I will admit, there have been times I was a little freaked out just because of the thought if something DID happen, you don’t have anything to protect you from impact, until now. Apparently, there are airbag jeans for motorcyclists!
Airbag Jeans for Motorcyclists
Well, I guess I should say they are in the works, and it includes a whole outfit! According to Good News Network, this airbag suit is made from “the strongest denim on the planet.” The way the jeans work is the airbags will activate on impact due to small CO2 cartridges.
The jeans have to be tethered to the motorcycle in order to be triggered in the event of an accident. That tether punctures the CO2 cartridges if an accident occurs, which then inflates the airbags.
The airbag jeans for motorcyclists are reusable and the cartridges are also replaceable. The airbags are to protect from impact, but the heavy-duty denim is designed to help with abrasion. The company behind this invention has tested the Mo’cycle brand jeans at speeds up to 45 mph with very little abrasion on the denim.
The Invention Process
The man behind the protective biker gear has been working on this idea for years. The first prototype was designed back in 2005. But that one was made of Kevlar and leather-lined jeans. This new idea makes the jeans a bit more breathable. They will come in relaxed and regular fit.
The company has used crowdfunding to help get the concept up and running. And it looks like they have hit their fundraising goal. The plan is to have these airbag jeans for motorcyclists produced and delivered by sometime this Summer.
