A Song From Chris Stapleton’s New Album Is On Dub’s Playlist
Chris Stapleton’s new album is really good. Let’s be honest, in my opinion, all of his albums have been good. While all of his albums are good, I always find certain songs that I gravitate to. The song I’m featuring this week is one of those songs. It hasn’t been on the radio yet, but hopefully, that will change in the near future.
“Higher”
That’s the title of Chris’ new record. It came out back in November of 2023. While there’s no denying that it’s Chris Stapleton’s music, he kind of ventures outside his lane a little bit more. There are straight-up country songs like he always does. However, there are a few more R&B-type love songs and a couple of more soulful songs. It’s a good mix, and it all works really well. In my opinion, Chris is one of the best singers in any genre of music. He can truly sing anything.
Before He Became A Star
Of course, y’all know who Chris Stapleton is, but let me give a little more info that maybe you didn’t know. He was in a rock band and a bluegrass band before we went out on his own. Also, he was a very successful songwriter before his solo career took off. He’s had six number ones as a songwriter. “Your Man” by Josh Turner, and “Drink A Beer” by Luke Bryan. I’ve been a fan of Chris since all the way back in 2015 when his album “Traveller” was released. I even had the chance to interview him right before the 2015 CMA awards. If you remember that was the night he performed with Justin Timberlake, and that’s when his career took off. You can check out a video of that interview here.

Written by Stapleton and Jim Beavers, Luke has described “Drink a Beer” as “the coolest sad song ever” and notes he connects with the story after having lost both of his siblings. It was released in November 2013 as the third single from Bryan’s fourth studio album, Crash My Party, and became his seventh number-one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in February 2014.

This song, written by Chris and Jesse Frasure, was the lead single to Thomas’ second studio album, Tangled Up. The first song by Rhett about heartache, “Crash and Burn,” tells the story of the narrator whose relationship falls apart.

The fourth chart single of his career, it became his first number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in early 2006.
