Update: In a press release from the Secret Service, the statement said a shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
The Secret Service “neutralized” the shooter, and the shooter died. The shooter was at an elevated position outside of the rally venue.
One rally attendee died, and two are critically injured, the Secret Service press statement said.
“US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated.”

Former President Donald Trump is being assessed at a medical facility after gunshot noises were heard at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, according to The Guardian.
Donald Trump was giving a speech around 6 p.m. at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, ABC News reports. A few moments into his speech, a video recording captured a loud noise resembling “gunshots” being heard throughout the crowd. Trump then kneels toward the ground, clutching his ear. This is when Secret Service agents rushed to Trump’s aid.
“The former president ducked quickly after the noises began, with the sound coming from the bleachers to the left of where he was standing at a lectern,” The New York Times reported. “The noises came in two groups, and smoke rose from that section of the bleachers.”
Unclear Loud Noises, Donald Trump Marked As ‘Fine’
Officials have not provided further details about the incident. It’s unclear what the loud noises exactly were. But USA Today reports that reporters were removed from the rally site and called it an active crime scene.
According to further reporting by The Guardian, while being escorted by agents, Trump pumped his fist with blood on the side of his face.
USA Today said President Joe Biden was leaving church when the Trump incident happened.
“President Joe Biden, who is in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, said, ‘No,’ when asked by reporters as he left church if he had been briefed by about the shooting at the Trump rally,” USA Today reports.

A statement from the White House said that Biden was briefed about the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally.
“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” the statement read. “There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
President Biden held a press conference, condemning the violence. He also said he hopes to speak to Trump shortly.
