One of the stops along the Augusta Ghost Tour!

Can I tell you just how excited I was when I learned that there’s an Augusta Ghost Tour? Apparently, the history and ghost tours have been going on for 20 years. So I’m not quite sure how I never knew it was a thing.  But I added it to my list of Augusta experiences I’d never done! That same day, my friend Lisa texted and asked if I was going to do the tour. And that’s all it took!  She called and booked us for this past Saturday night!

Lisa and I were both excited!  We love history and ghost stories.  While Lisa grew up in the area, of course, I’ve only been here for just over 6 years.  There’s so much history in this area.  I knew there had to be some great stories about all of the old buildings downtown.  And you don’t have old buildings without a few ghost stories attached, right?

The Tour

We met at Groucho’s Deli on Saturday evening.  And we all got a glow necklace and Augusta Adventures & Tours pin before we started out.  The tour is hosted by Michael Wolff.  It is a walking tour, so it was based primarily around the Broad Street and Reynolds Street areas. A few of the highlights include the Lucky 7 Tattoo shop, the Augusta Cotton Exchange, the Modjeska Theater, and Saint Paul’s Graveyard. We learned a lot about the history of many of the buildings and the people who had an impact on the area.

And yes, we learned about a few ghosts.  Isabella is the one that stood out the most to me.  She is the resident ghost at the Augusta Cotton Exchange building.  And we saw what is possibly her grave at Saint Paul’s.

Overall, it was a really fun tour.  We learned a lot about the area, got some fun pictures, and had a few laughs along the way.  And Michael told us he’s taking a little time off, but getting ready to kick off the fall season soon.  He’s actually talked to the folks at Peddle Pub and they’re going to be partnering up in the fall!  So, chances are, I’ll be taking another ghost tour then!
