During the holiday season, there’s no shortage of Christmas music. Everywhere you go, you’re sure to hear the sounds of the season. And while there are plenty of lists about the worst songs, I wanted to take a look at my top 5 favorite country Christmas songs.
I grew up listening to country music (and Oldies with my dad). So when the holidays rolled around, it was mostly country renditions of Christmas classics we would listen to. Whether it was a country version of a traditional song or an original, as Christmas got closer, the local radio station would play more and more holiday songs. And of those, there were a few I loved more than the rest. But even if we weren’t listening to the radio, we had a few albums and CDs that were put into rotation during the festive season.
One of my favorite memories of the holidays growing up was listening to the Alabama Christmas album… on vinyl. My dad had a record player, and on Christmas morning, the Alabama Christmas album was ready to go. There was something about that sound that just solidified that it was Christmas. Even now, just thinking about it makes me smile. And I’m hoping we might get a taste of it again this year (mom, dad – I hope you’re reading this).
Perhaps my love for that Alabama Christmas album is why one of those songs landed at number one on my top 5 list. Although, one of the songs on that album didn’t make my list. But I do feel like it deserves an honorable mention… because who doesn’t love “Thistlehair The Christmas Bear”? It’s definitely on my list of top country Christmas songs…
But I did want to narrow my favorites down to the top 5 list. This was no easy feat. There are many great country Christmas songs to choose from. I know everyone will have their own list, but these are some that have been a big part of Christmas throughout my life, and always help me get a little more in the holiday season. So let’s get into it!
