Disney Is Doing A Live-Action Remake Of Another Classic And I’m Already Dreading It
Let me preface this by saying I am NOT one of those Disney loyalists who think that all live-action remakes are awful. Some of them have been fantastic–I will defend the 1996 live-action 101 Dalmations to the death, as well as Maleficent. (Although I would argue that Maleficent isn’t really a live-action REMAKE; it’s more of an untold origin story, but I digress…) Beauty & The Beast was pretty good, Aladdin was severely disappointing, Lady And The Tramp was mostly a snoozefest, and DON’T even get me started on the upcoming remake of Mulan, because I have no time for a non-musical, Mooshoo-less Mulan.
…so yes, as a hard-core Disney fan, I take these live-action remakes with a grain of salt. I was expecting Disney to announce that Pocahontas would be their next live-action release, so I was pretty surprised to read that up next will be a CGI/live-action hybrid of Robin Hood. Like Lady And The Tramp, this new Robin Hood will skip theaters and air exclusively on Disney+.
As wary as I am of remaking this iconic cartoon, there’s one possibility that I one thousand percent STAN, and that’s casting Sturgill Simpson as Alan-A-Dale, singing “Ooh de lally, ooh de lally, golly what a day!”
