Lainey Wilson’s New Music Will Show A Different Side Of Her
Lainey Wilson’s latest album, Bell Bottom Country, is nominated next week for the coveted Album of the Year award at the CMA Awards on Wednesday (11/8). The album already took the same honor in May at the Academy of Country Music Awards. That project really catapulted Lainey into country music superstardom, and now she’s been working on the follow-up album.
We asked Wilson last week about the new music she has coming, and she gave us a tease of what she’s been writing about. She said, “I will say I feel like with every record that I write, and I feel that with every show that I play, I’m just figuring out who I am just a little bit more. And the truth is, I don’t think I could figure it out anymore, but I just do.”
She continued, “I’m in a happy, healthy relationship, and so you’ll hear some of those. It ain’t gonna be all floofy like all butterflies in my stomach; I’m dancing around in a sundress. That ain’t gonna happen (laughs). It’s gonna be more like an empowerment like, ‘I got a good man who loves me and supports me.’ So that’s definitely gonna show that side to me that I don’t even know some people knew existed, but it does.”

Lainey noted that as busy as she has been, she has to stop and live a little more life before the new music develops. She told us, “I have made sure that we have carved out time for me to live my life so I can write things that people are gonna be able to relate to. The truth is, if I didn’t do that, I’d be writing about airports and tour buses. And that’s not very relatable to the folks that I’m singing to. So, it’s making sure that you’re living to write.”
After the CMA Awards, she’s got some well-deserved downtime coming. Wilson strives for the small steps in life a lot these days, “For me, it’s even little things like face-timing my nephews back at home. If I have an hour to sit in the back of the bus and call and just listen to them scream and like put each other in a headlock, that makes me feel at home. It makes me feel grounded. I am getting a little more time at my house here lately doing laundry and stuff like that.”
