Augusta Airport To Host Fourth Annual Run the Runway 5K Benefiting Cystic Fibrosis Patients
The fourth annual Run the Runway 5K will be at the Augusta Regional Airport on March 15. All proceeds go to help people living with cystic fibrosis through BreatheStrong CF.
The race begins at Lock and Dam Road, taking runners through New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam Park before finishing with a dash across the airport’s runway.
“We are anxiously looking forward to hosting the fourth Annual Run the Runway 5K event,” said Herbert L. Judon Jr., Airport Executive Director, to Augusta Good News. “It has grown to be one of the top fitness and family events in the region. I always tout how unique it is to run on Airport runways and taxiways. However, this year with so many local trails and greenways obstructed or adversely impacted by Hurricane Helene, we are especially grateful to allow runners, walkers and families to get out and enjoy our course.”
BreatheStrong CF uses the proceeds to help with the emotional and financial stress of CF patients. The genetic condition damages the lungs, making breathing difficult. BreatheStrong CF helps by providing essential support, exercise programs, and money for medications.
“We are honored and grateful to be the beneficiary of the 4th Annual Run the Runway 5K,” said Becky
Penuel, Executive Director of BreatheStrong CF, to Augusta Good News.
Key sponsors include ADP, WFXG Fox54, and iHeart Radio, along with local businesses Busby’s Heating & Air Conditioning, Farm Bureau, and Coleman American Moving lending their support.
