There are a few things in life that will start a good heated conversation.  Politics, Religion, College Football, and Coke or Pepsi!  Yes, the battle over soda is very much you are wrong no matter which way ya go.  These are the top 10 sodas of all time and we are going to break them down.

The soda business worldwide is  $416.19 billion a year business. That’s over 180 billion aluminum cans/bottles filled with soda sold worldwide each year. That’s equivalent to 6,700 cans/bottles being sold every second.

Soda Facts

  • In The States, 1 out of 4 people have at least one per day.
  • Argentina has the most soda consumption.
  • Coca-Cola is the most-sold soda in the world
  • Vernor’s boasts the oldest soda in America, but not the world.
  • The average 12-ounce can of soda contains about 40 grams of refined sugars.

Personally, I think the world for the most part is divided into two types of people.  Coke or Pepsi.  Now what you do from there takes on a whole new life.  Diet, Zero, Lemon Lime, Cherry, Fizzy Or Not Fizzy.  There are so many options.

The original recipe for Coke was initially sold as a patent medicine in soda fountain stores with the claim that it was a remedy for ailments including heartburn, nausea, and headaches.  The name Coca-Cola is from the original drink’s two primary ingredients: the coca leaf and the kola nut. Extract of the coca leaf was essentially cocaine, while the kola nut provided caffeine.

Pepsi was first invented in 1893 as “Brad’s Drink” by Caleb Bradham, who sold the drink at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina.  It was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898.  “Pepsi” was also advertised to relieve indigestion.  So both of the world’s leading sodas started out as medication.  Now if you drink too much soda, it can put you on medication.

I’m team Coke all the way.  I’m a Coke Zero and Diet Coke junkie.  Can’t hide that fact.  I do love that most all sodas have branched out to do the Zero Sugar brands.  This allows more people to enjoy a soda that may not be able to due to health reasons.  The addition of cherry to the zero products has been a gift from the soda gods.

So what are the most popular sodas? Let’s find out.

  • #10-Diet Mountain Dew

First made and sold in 1986 and it was called “Sugar-Free Mountain Dew.” It’s been a while since I’ve had one, but it use to be my go to mixer for bourbon.

  • #9-Fanta Orange

Fanta started out as a German based soft drink, now American owned.  Fanta now offers over 200 flavors with the most popular being orange,  Strawberry, Berry, and Pineapple.

  • #8-Coke Zero

Now this one surprises me just a bit being this low on the list.  I’m a Coke Zero or Diet Coke person, this one is go to for me.

  • #7-Diet Pepsi

It’s pretty simple, You are a Coke person or a Pepsi person.  I personally don’t mind a Diet Coke from time to time if Diet Coke isn’t an option.

  • #6-Sprite

Sprite is just a classic.  You don’t even have to been in the mood for a soda, but if you are offered a Sprite, You’ll take it.

  • #5-Mountain Dew

Now this is your blast of sugar in a can.  Don’t have one too close to bed time, you’ll be up awhile.  Mountain Dew was one of the first to take it to a new level with the Ba Ha Blast, Frost and many other ways to jack it up

  • #4-Dr Pepper.

From having a pepper at 10, 2 and 4 to Fansville with college football, this tasty treat has brought up some great adervtising to go with Dr. Pepper

  • #3-Diet Coke

A proven all time diet favorite.  It again goes back to the fact that you are either a Coke Or Pepsi person.  I’m on team Diet Coke most days.

  • #2-Pepsi

It’s always been a battle between Pepsi or Coke since the invention of soda.  Now I will be 100% honest,  Sometime when I’m really thirsty on a hot summer can, A can of Pepsi wins everytime.

  • #1-Coke

So the battle continues, but Coke comes in at number 1 on the most popular soda.  Atlanta based, this is the most popular brand of soda. For me, it’s the Santa bottles every year that does it for me
