What are the best scary movies ever? Most of us love to watch horror movies this time of year. I would venture to say a good majority of us watch a lot of the same ones over and over again. The way I look at it is, if it’s a good movie, watch it as many times as you want. You can’t beat a classic.

Also, the newer horror movies just aren’t as good as the classics, at least not in my opinion. I haven’t really heard about a newer horror movie that really scared people. Well, the folks over at Netflix have compiled a list of the best scary movies ever. Out of the top five, four of the movies are what I would consider to be classics.

I will go ahead and tell you some of the classics that didn’t make Netflix’s list.

  • “Child’s Play”
  • “Friday The 13th”
  • “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”

These are some of the ones that I was a little surprised didn’t make the list. One recent movie did make Netflix’s list. However, I wonder if one of the movies I just listed should’ve been on there instead. Really, I guess that’s for you to decide. If you’re looking to cram as many horror movies into the last few days of spooky season as you can, I would say you’ve got to start with the movies on this list.

Here is Netflix’s list of the best scary movies ever:

  • "The Shining" 1980

To me, this movie isn’t as scary as it is freaky. I was never really scared by it, but it’s definitely iconic for sure. This is Jack Nicholson at his best.

  • "A Quiet Place" 2018

This is the only “modern” movie on this list. I will admit, I haven’t seen this one, I did hear that it was pretty freaky though. It’s one of the few scary movies that have come out in recent years that actually left people talking.

  • "Halloween" 1978

This is a classic scary movie. Michael Myers is an iconic character. Plus there have been so many sequels and reboots, I think “Halloween” definitely belongs on the list.

  • "The Exorcist" 1973

This is another iconic movie. However, to me it falls under the “freaky” category more so than it does the “scary” category. It’s been scaring people for 50 years though so I can see why it’s on the list.

  • "Nightmare On Elm Street" 1984

Just like Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger is an iconic horror movie figure. And just like the “Halloween” franchise, the “Nightmare On Elm Street” franchise has spawned several sequels and reboots. So yes, I can definitely see why this movie made the list.
