Who was the best Batman? Thats a debate that has been going on for years. Ever since I was a little kid, I've loved the masked vigilante.  He's definitely my favorite superhero. If there was a Batman movie in theaters, then you can bet I was there watching it. A lot of actors have played the caped crusader, but who did it the best?

What got me thinking about this is the fact that "Batman Returns" hit theaters 31 years ago today. That was a great movie. It had great villains in Danny DeVito as The Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Cat Woman. But it had a great Batman in Michael Keaton. Was he the best? We'll take a look at that in a minute.

The franchise has been rebooted several times, and each time its different. Sometimes different in a good way, and sometimes different in a not good way. I can say that there have only been a few flops when in comes to Batman movies in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned, the older movies will always be better. I think thats just because those are the ones I grew up with. We're always drawn to the ones from our childhood right? Its the whole nostalgia thing.

Thats not to say that the newer versions haven't been good. Most of them have been awesome, and some have been less than stellar, but if its Batman, I'm at least going to check it out. The folks at Entertainment Weekly did a ranking of all of the actors who've played Batman over the years, here is their list.

So who was the best Batman? Here's my list.

Michael Keaton

Michael Keaton will always be the best Batman to me. The first Batman movie I saw was the one from 1989 with him and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. For me, Michael Keaton will always be the best Batman. Every one else is just fighting for second.

Christian Bale

Christian Bale is a close second for me. Christian played Batman three times, and each time he did a great job. The only complaint I have is that he took Batman's gravely voice to the extreme just a little bit.

Adam West

Adam West played Batman in the TV series from the 1960s. I would watch the reruns when I was a kid and yes it was kind of cheesy, but it was cool back then and its still fun to watch today. Adam West was a great Batman.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson is the latest actor to play Batman, and I'll be honest, I was skeptical when I heard he would be playing Batman. But he did a really good job! I was pleasantly surprised.

Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer did a pretty good job at playing Batman. He played the caped crusader in the 1995 movie "Batman Forever". To me, Jim Carrey stole the show as The Riddler in that movie, but Val as Batman wasn't bad. There have definitely been worse portrayals.
