2017 CMT Music Awards Salute Gregg Allman
Music tributes can be tough. The standards for the artists performing them are always high, not to mention fan expectations.
It’s safe to say the tribute arranged for Southern Rock originator Gregg Allman during the recent 2017 CMT Music Awards passed the test, however.
Allman died May 27th at the age of 69 after a lengthy battle with liver cancer and other illnesses. Up to the task of honoring him with a cover of “Midnight Rider” were Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley, Darius Rucker and guitarist and one-time Allman Brothers band member Derek Trucks. Here’s four minutes well spent with three-part harmonies, six strings and a slide.
