Cornflowers have two strains, an annual (Centaurea cyanus) and perennial (Centaurea montana), and typically show off blue blooms according to HomeGuides. The nickname, Bachelor’s Buttons, are spring through summer blooms, and can grow extremely tall, and look a little bit like wildflowers. You can also find them in a “dwarf” version, which grows 6 to 12 inches tall.
